Automatic External Defibrillators - Policy Article

Automatic external defibrillators (HCPCS E0617, K0606, A9270) are covered under Medicare Part B as Durable Medical Equipment when the related LCD’s reasonable and necessary criteria and applicable statutory payment requirements are met. Per Final Rule 1713, a face-to-face encounter and a Written Order Prior to Delivery (WOPD) are required prior to delivery for specified codes; claims missing required modifiers (KX/GA/GZ or KF for Class III devices) or documentation will be rejected or denied.
