Wheelchair options and accessories are covered under the DME benefit when the related LCD reasonable-and-necessary criteria and applicable Medicare payment rules are met; initial-issue allowances for POVs, rollabout chairs, and transport chairs generally include accessories, with certain replacement items covered when medically necessary. Numerous accessories and features are explicitly non-covered (e.g., power standing E2301, transport securement E1022/E1023, leisure/recreational items, certain electronic or remote features A9270) or bundled into the base device at initial issue (e.g., single-mode battery chargers, non-elevating legrests), and specified items require a prior face-to-face encounter and Written Order Prior to Delivery per Final Rule 1713.
