Vacuum Erection Devices (VED) - Policy Article

Vacuum erection devices (VEDs) are classified as prosthetic devices, but HCPCS codes L7900 and L7902 are statutorily non-covered for dates of service on or after July 1, 2015 under the ABLE Act. For DMEPOS items subject to Final Rule 1713, a face-to-face encounter and a Written Order Prior to Delivery (WOPD) are required before supplier delivery; failure to obtain these will result in denial of the claim and nonpayment even if a WOPD is later obtained.
