Billing and Coding: Home Health Occupational Therapy
A53057
Home health occupational therapy is covered when services address functional limitations and are supported by updated OASIS M2200 data and appropriate documentation linking therapy to attainable functional goals. Electrical stimulation and other modalities are conditionally covered (e.g., attended CPT 97032 or supervised HCPCS G0283) when nerve supply is intact and functional improvement is demonstrated within specified visit limits, while certain uses (Bell’s palsy, MS motor disorders, stroke without potential for recovery, or isolated strengthening of fairly strong muscle) are non-covered. Billing must use G0152 as the required HCPCS (15-minute units), and documentation (modalities performed, medical necessity for multiple modalities, strength/pain measures, progress notes) must be available to the MAC.
"Occupational therapy is covered for patients with migraine (G43."
