Glaucoma Screening

Medicare covers glaucoma screening annually for beneficiaries who meet high-risk criteria (diabetes mellitus, family history of glaucoma, African Americans age >=50, Hispanic Americans age >=65). A covered screening must be a dilated eye exam with IOP measurement plus direct ophthalmoscopy or slit-lamp biomicroscopy, billed with HCPCS G0117 or G0118 and diagnosis code Z13.5; beneficiaries owe 20% coinsurance after the Part B deductible and services more frequent than once per year require an ABN.
