Billing and Coding: MolDX: IKBKAP Genetic Testing

IKBKAP (familial dysautonomia) genetic testing (CPT 81260) and any test panels containing IKBKAP are statutorily excluded from Medicare and will be denied. ABNs are not required for statutorily excluded services; providers may append GX for a voluntary ABN or GY to indicate a valid ABN on file, and must include the DEX Z-Code adjacent to the CPT code in the specified claim fields for Part A and Part B claims.

"IKBKAP genetic testing (CPT 81260) is statutorily excluded from Medicare and is not a Medicare benefit; claims for IKBKAP testing will be denied."
