A54899
Medicare Part B covers the basic lipid panel (cholesterol, lipids, triglycerides) for cardiovascular disease screening every 5 years when ordered by a physician and per NCD 190.23 for evaluation and monitoring of atherosclerotic disease and lipid therapy. Individual lipid biomarkers (hs-CRP, Lp(a), Lp-PLA2, LDL particles, Apo B) may be covered only when specifically ordered with the clinical reason documented to guide diagnosis or therapy. All other CV risk assessment biomarker panels and non-lipid biomarkers are not covered, and routine or wholesale testing (including testing in asymptomatic individuals) is denied.
