Medicare coverage of the technical component of polysomnography and related sleep testing requires that sleep centers be accredited by AASM, ACHC, or the Joint Commission and that facilities be hospital-affiliated or under the direction of an MD/DO meeting specified sleep medicine credentialing. All sleep study raw data must be reviewed and interpreted by physicians certified in Sleep Medicine or who have completed an ACGME-accredited fellowship and obtain certification within two exam cycles; documentation of accreditation, affiliation, and physician credentials must be maintained and produced on request.
