Policy Summary
The Rezum System (convective water vapor thermal therapy) is covered for treating lower urinary tract symptoms secondary to benign prostatic hyperplasia when used for FDA-cleared indications. Claims must be reported using CPT 53854 (not CPT 53852) with the procedure documented on the UB-04 (FL80) for facility claims or CMS-1500 (Box 19) for physician claims; these coding rules are effective January 1, 2019.
