Low frequency, non-contact, non-thermal ultrasound (CPT code 97610)

CPT 97610 (low frequency, non-contact, non-thermal ultrasound/MIST therapy) is allowed and separately billable for wound treatment only when no other active wound management (CPT 97597, 97598, 97602, 97607, 97608) or wound debridement (CPT 11042-11047, 97597, 97598) is performed on the same wound. If those other wound services are provided for the same wound, payment for 97610 is considered bundled/included and should not be billed separately; this billing rule is effective November 1, 2018. Documentation must support the service rendered and whether other wound treatments/debridement were performed to justify separate billing.
