Billing and Coding: Psychiatric Inpatient Hospitalization

This policy provides supplemental billing and coding guidance for psychiatric inpatient hospitalization and defers coverage determinations to Local Coverage Determination L34570. Listing an ICD-10-CM mental disorder code (F01.50-F99) alone does not guarantee coverage; claims must meet the LCD's clinical and documentation requirements.

"Psychiatric inpatient hospitalization services are covered when billed in accordance with the Local Coverage Determination (LCD) L34570 and meet that LCD's clinical and coverage criteria."
