Billing and Coding: MDS FISH

For MDS FISH billing, use CPT 88271-88291 when ISH is performed as an ancillary cytogenetic analysis for oncologic or inherited disorders, and use CPT 88365-88377 only when a pathologist performs ISH as an adjunct to a surgical pathology or cytopathology case. Do not use the 88365-88377 codes for cytogenetic ancillary analyses. Claims must include the appropriate CPT and ICD-10-CM codes, report 1 unit of service, and do not require a DEX Z-Code identifier.
