Policy Summary
CPT 51798 (post-void residual urine and/or bladder capacity by ultrasound) is covered when ordered by the treating/referring physician and supported by documentation of medical necessity (history, exam, and test results). Claims must include a valid ICD-10 diagnosis code, an attending/provider order, documentation that the measurement was performed immediately post-void with date and performer identified, and CPT 51798 should not be performed more than once per day; ABN and modifier requirements apply for anticipated or statutory denials.
