Billing and Coding: B-type Natriuretic Peptide (BNP) Testing

This policy directs that billing and coding for B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) testing follow the associated Local Coverage Determination (LCD) and that medical necessity be documented. Medical records must be legible, maintained in the patient file, include relevant history, exam, and diagnostic results, and be producible to the A/B MAC on request; absence of supporting documentation may lead to claim denial.
