Transcranial Doppler studies are covered only when all clinical indications and limitations in LCD L33977 and applicable CMS coverage and medical necessity rules are met. Providers must maintain complete, legible medical records that support the ICD-10-CM and CPT/HCPCS codes and must include the ordering provider's stated clinical indication; services not meeting the LCD are non-covered and subject to modifier requirements, audit, and redetermination.
