Billing and Coding: Nerve Conduction Studies and Electromyography
A57668
Medicare does not cover the sensory Nerve Conduction Threshold test (sNCT, G0255). Nerve conduction and EMG testing are reimbursed with specific coding, documentation, and frequency rules: NC-stat (CPT 95905) is allowed only for high-probability carpal tunnel cases (one service per arm), each 95907–95913 descriptor is payable once per named nerve, and EMG/NCS results and interpretation must be documented (including numeric NCS data and waveforms upon request). Provider supervision and billing privileges depend on CPT-level supervision indicators and ABPTS certification; portable handheld psychophysical tests are included in E/M and not separately payable.
"NC-stat testing (CPT 95905) is allowed when the beneficiary has a high pre-test or prior probability of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS), limited to one service per arm."
