Billing and Coding: Vitamin D Assay Testing

Vitamin D assay testing is covered when the medical record documents medical necessity, including the clinical indication and any repeat testing and frequency. Claims are subject to Correct Coding Initiative (CCI) edits and must follow CCI coding guidance; services lacking appropriate documentation or medical necessity will be denied under Section 1862(a)(1). Records must be made available to Medicare upon request.
