MolDX: Defining panel services in MolDX
A59700
MolDX A59700 defines a 'panel' as any molecular testing service where more than one analyte is measured and the analytes are marketed, performed, or reported such that a single result/report or clinical value requires multiple analytes (including parallel testing). Single-analyte tests that provide sufficient clinical information are not panels; when no specific panel CPT exists, unbundling component codes is disallowed and tests should be billed using appropriate NOC codes (e.g., 81479, 81599, 87999). Documentation/billing must clearly indicate panel status and support that multiple analytes and a single integrated result justify panel coding.
"A service is a panel when a clinician orders a group of molecular analytes (more than 1) marketed and provided as a single service."
