Billing and Coding: B-type Natriuretic Peptide (BNP) Testing

BNP testing is covered when used as a diagnostic test per the related LCD DL34410 (e.g., evaluation of suspected heart failure), subject to the LCD's specific indications. BNP testing is not covered for monitoring chronic heart failure, requires supporting medical-record documentation (history, exam, relevant test results), and is generally limited to no more than four tests per 12-month period.
