Billing and Coding: Superficial Radiation Therapy (SRT) for the Treatment of Nonmelanoma Skin Cancers (NMSC)
A60184
Superficial radiation therapy (SRT) for nonmelanoma skin cancers is payable only in non-facility settings and may be covered when the provider documents the patient is a nonsurgical candidate and that SRT is medically necessary versus other modalities. Extensive pre-treatment and ongoing documentation is required (diagnosis, tumor size/location, imaging, detailed treatment plan and dose constraints, verification procedures, signed reviews) and coding/billing must comply with ASTRO/CMS guidance; non-covered services must be billed with appropriate Part B modifiers (GY/GZ).
"SRT for nonmelanoma skin cancers (NMSC) is payable only when delivered in a non-facility setting (freestanding radiation therapy centers or physician offices that meet state requirements)."
