Septoplasty and Rhinoplasty

Aetna covers septoplasty when medically necessary for: septal deformity that prevents access for other required intranasal surgery; recurrent sinusitis attributable to a deviated septum not relieved by appropriate medical/antibiotic therapy; recurrent epistaxis from a septal deformity; or continuous nasal airway obstruction unresponsive to ≥4 weeks of appropriate medical therapy. Septoplasty for other indications (e.g., allergic rhinitis) is experimental/investigational and not covered, and extracorporeal septoplasty for revision, nasal valve suspension, pyriform aperture reduction, and absorbable nasal implants (e.g., Spirox Latera) are also considered experimental/investigational and not covered.
