Color-Flow Doppler Echocardiography in Adults
AETNA-CPB-0008
Aetna covers color‑flow Doppler echocardiography in adults only for specified indications—such as during excision of a left atrial mass and for evaluation of angina, aortic diseases, aortocoronary bypass grafts, and atrial fibrillation/flutter—with CPT codes payable only if the policy’s selection criteria are met. All other uses are considered experimental/investigational (notably to guide catheter ablation of ventricular tachycardia—CPT 93650, 93653, 93654 and HCPCS C1886) and it is not supported for many anatomy/pathology evaluations (e.g., chamber size, wall thickness, valvular masses, pericardial effusion).
