Routine Foot Care
AETNA-CPB-0046
Routine foot care (e.g., nail trimming, treatment of corns/calluses, pedicures, non‑surgical bunion care) is generally excluded under most Aetna plans and is covered only when medically necessary — specifically if non‑professional care would be hazardous due to an underlying condition, when it is integral to an otherwise covered service (e.g., debridement to expose a subungual ulcer), for debridement of mycotic nails causing secondary infection/pain with marked ambulation limitation, or for diabetic patients with loss of protective sensation (ICD‑10 E08‑E13) as referenced by codes G0245–G0247 and S0390. Key requirement: coverage requires documented medical necessity per the policy indications and verification of the member’s specific plan benefits.
