Antepartum Fetal Surveillance
AETNA-CPB-0088
Aetna covers in‑office and in‑hospital antepartum fetal surveillance (NST, CST, BPP/modified BPP, and umbilical artery and middle cerebral artery Doppler) as medically necessary per ACOG for pregnancies at risk of stillbirth from utero‑placental insufficiency, typically initiating testing at 32–34 weeks (or ~26 weeks for multiple or particularly high‑risk conditions) and repeating weekly or twice‑weekly while the risk persists. Uterine artery Doppler, ductus venosus or other non‑MCA/umbilical vessel Dopplers, serum YKL‑40, umbilical artery Doppler in multiple gestations except for IUGR/oligohydramnios/TTTS/discordant fetuses, and any surveillance indications not listed are considered experimental/investigational and not covered.
"No explicit limitations, exclusions, frequency limits, patient age restrictions, or non-covered situations are stated in the provided document text."
