Genetic Counseling
AETNA-CPB-0189
Aetna covers genetic counseling for pregnancy management only for consanguinity/incest, familial cancer disorders, individuals from high‑risk ethnic groups (e.g., African Americans for sickle cell, Ashkenazi Jews for Tay‑Sachs), or infertility when a parent has a known chromosomal abnormality, and deems counseling for all other indications experimental/investigational and not covered. Coverage is limited to these listed indications (and counseling tied to medically necessary genetic testing per ACMG), CPT/HCPCS/ICD‑10 codes are reimbursed only if selection criteria are met, and services may be excluded under plans that omit family‑planning benefits — verify plan specifics.
"Services are covered only when selection criteria/indications listed in the policy are met (codes in the policy are 'covered if selection criteria are met')."
