Aetna covers compatibility testing of related prospective donors (first‑ and second‑degree), harvesting and short‑term storage of peripheral blood or bone marrow stem cells from the identified donor when an allogeneic transplant is authorized, umbilical cord blood as an alternative and short‑term storage for a matched member with malignancy, hematopoietic cell transplant boost for graft failure, and omidubicel only when CPB 1032 clinical criteria are met. Private autologous cord‑blood banking and the use of MSC co‑transplantation, ELISPOT CMV risk assays, MSC‑derived extracellular vesicles for GVHD, and ex‑vivo expanded cord blood are excluded as experimental/investigational and not covered.
