Policy Summary
Aetna covers home health aide services only when they are provided in conjunction with intermittent skilled home health care by a licensed nurse, occupational/physical/speech therapist and when the aide's tasks directly support skilled care (e.g., assisting with prescribed exercise regimens, ADLs per the plan of care, changing non‑sterile dressings, routine prosthetic/orthotic care). Services not meeting this requirement—including standalone aide care, babysitting, housecleaning beyond the immediate area, and transportation—are not medically necessary.
