Aetna covers CCK cholescintigraphy to confirm/exclude chronic calculous or chronic/acalculous cholecystitis, to exclude acute acalculous cholecystitis, to differentiate common duct obstruction from a hypertonic sphincter of Oddi, and as a noninvasive test for sphincter of Oddi dysfunction during cholescintigraphy. It is experimental/investigational and not covered for all other indications (notably pain provocation to predict post‑operative relief after cholecystectomy), coverage of CPT/HCPCS codes requires unspecified "selection criteria," and certain ICD‑10 codes (e.g., K82.8, Z98.89) are excluded.
