Policy Summary
Aetna covers tilt table testing (CPT 93660; HCPCS J7657–J7660 for isoproterenol) as medically necessary for recurrent unexplained syncope when history and physical are inconclusive and non‑invasive cardiac testing is negative, and as part of the diagnostic workup for suspected POTS. It is considered experimental/investigational and not covered for other indications (e.g., assessing medication effectiveness for syncope, diagnosing joint hypermobility, differentiating parkinsonian syndromes, or evaluating autonomic dysfunction in childhood hypersomnia).
