Hair Analysis

Aetna covers chemical hair analysis only for diagnosing suspected chronic arsenic poisoning (CPT 82175/83015 when selection criteria and the covered ICD‑10 codes are met) and microscopic hair examination (CPT 96902) for specified hair/follicular disorders (covered ICD‑10 codes). All other chemical/hair mineral analyses (including BDNF testing), HCPCS P2031, and hair testing for non‑treatment purposes (e.g., evading drug detection) are considered experimental/investigational or not covered.
