Policy Summary
Dexamethasone suppression testing is covered only when a psychiatrist requests it as a medically necessary aid to differentiate psychotic depression from schizophrenia; it is considered experimental/investigational (and not covered) for diagnosing major depressive disorder, selecting medications, or diagnosing/managing borderline personality disorder or PTSD.
