Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT) and Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT)

MSLT and MWT (CPT 95805) are covered only to evaluate/confirm narcolepsy and to help differentiate idiopathic hypersomnia from narcolepsy when the plan’s clinical selection criteria/covered ICD‑10 codes are met. Repeat testing is not routinely medically necessary except if the initial test was invalid/uninterpretable, affected by extraneous circumstances, or lacked polygraphic confirmation; home MSLT, single‑nap studies, and use of MSLT/MWT for other indications (e.g., ADHD, chronic fatigue, circadian disorders, parasomnias, OSA assessment, insomnia, other neurologic/psychiatric disorders) are considered experimental/investigational.
