Cold Laser and High-Power Laser Therapies

Aetna covers low‑level (cold) laser therapy—including CPT 0552T and ICD‑10 K12.30–K12.39 when selection criteria are met—for prevention of oral mucositis in patients undergoing chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and/or hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, and also permits LLLT as an adjunct to scaling and root planing for peri‑implant mucositis and aggressive periodontitis. Aetna considers cold/high‑power lasers and LLLT using dynamic photonic/thermokinetic energies experimental and investigational (not covered) for indications such as Achilles tendinopathy, Alzheimer’s disease, bone regeneration/healing, breast implant capsular contracture, and similar conditions.
