Aetna considers home cholesterol monitors experimental and investigational and does not cover them for any indication (no CPT code listed; HCPCS A9279 not covered). Coverage is denied because daily home testing is unnecessary for effective cholesterol management and there is no evidence that home monitoring improves clinical outcomes versus periodic laboratory testing.
