Aetna covers annual low‑dose CT lung cancer screening (CPT 71271) and the shared‑decision counseling visit (HCPCS G0296) for current or former smokers ages 50–80 with a ≥20 pack‑year history who, if former smokers, quit within the past 15 years (coverage only when selection criteria are met). LDCT for other indications (e.g., asbestos‑exposed individuals), PET, computer‑aided detection on chest radiographs, and AI‑based imaging are considered experimental/investigational and not covered.
