Aetna covers complementary and alternative medicine only when adequate peer‑reviewed evidence demonstrates safety and effectiveness, with specific modalities addressed in separate CPBs (e.g., acupuncture CPB 0135, biofeedback CPB 0132, chelation CPB 0234, chiropractic CPB 0107). The policy considers acoustic therapy for anxiety/depression, active release technique, acupressure, Alexander technique, and AMMA therapy experimental/investigational and therefore not covered due to inadequate evidence.
