Jaw Motion Rehabilitation Systems

Aetna covers jaw motion rehabilitation systems (e.g., Therabite, OraStretch) as medically necessary only to treat mandibular hypomobility from radiation in head and neck cancer patients (HCPCS E1700/E1701/E1702 and specified ICD‑10 codes covered if selection criteria are met). All other indications—such as closed lock, facial burns, improving TMJ range of motion in Duchenne or spinal muscular atrophy, and mandibular coronoid hyperplasia—are considered experimental/investigational and not covered.
