Aetna covers medically necessary ADHD assessments including a complete psychiatric evaluation (adults), a medical history and physical, parent/child or patient interviews documenting DSM‑5 criteria, and evaluation of comorbid psychiatric, family and social history. Neuropsychological/psychological testing for uncomplicated ADHD (or solely for educational purposes) is not considered medically necessary, EEG/neurology consults are covered only with focal signs or suspicion of seizure/degenerative disease, and blood lead testing is only indicated when clinical or environmental risk factors are present.
