Bathroom and Toilet Equipment and Supplies
AETNA-CPB-0429
Aetna generally treats most bathroom/toilet DME as non-covered personal convenience items (e.g., bath mats, bathing systems, bidet seats, grab bars affixed to walls, whirlpools, weight scales and specified HCPCS codes such as E0170–E0175, E0240–E0249, E0625, E1300–E1310), and raised toilet seats or commode chairs positioned over a toilet are non‑covered. Exceptions: HMO-based/health‑network plans cover commodes, autoclavable bed pans (E0275/E0276), urinals (E0325/E0326) and home bed baths only if the member is bed‑ or room‑confined, while Traditional plans cover bathroom DME only if it is primarily medical in nature, not ordinarily useful absent illness/injury, and necessary for daily health/personal hygiene.
""Bed baths (home type)" — HMO-based: No; Traditional: Yes (if bed-confined or room-confined)."
