Fluidized Therapy (Fluidotherapy)
AETNA-CPB-0450
Aetna covers fluidized therapy (fluidotherapy) as medically necessary for acute or subacute traumatic or non‑traumatic musculoskeletal disorders of the extremities and accepts dry‑heat fluidized therapy as an alternative heat modality to reduce pain, edema, and muscle spasm. It is experimental/investigational for other indications (e.g., carpal tunnel, post‑stroke limb edema, rewarming hypothermia, rheumatoid arthritis), is subject to physical therapy benefit limits (covers only professional charges for licensed providers for one‑on‑one treatment), is contraindicated with local sensory loss/open lesions/severe circulatory obstruction/systemic infection, and is generally limited to a maximum of four weeks.
