Aetna covers medically necessary assessments for management of anorexia and bulimia, including CBC and serum chemistries (electrolytes, BUN/creatinine), liver function tests, electrocardiography, and bone density measurement specifically for evaluation of anorexic members. Aetna excludes (considers experimental/investigational) screening for eating disorders in adolescents and adults and tests with insufficient evidence—blood-based serotonergic biomarkers, brain imaging (MRI/PET/SPECT), COMT Val158Met genotyping, and EEG for bulimia/binge-eating.
