Hospital Beds and Accessories

Aetna covers medically necessary fixed‑height and semi‑electric hospital beds (and mattresses only when the bed is medically necessary) for members who need body positioning not feasible in an ordinary bed, special bed‑only attachments, or sustained head‑of‑bed elevation >30%; safety rails/enclosures are generally excluded unless integral to a covered bed, powered chair conversion features are excluded, and separate replacement mattress charges are not allowed with rentals. Coverage requires documentation that ordinary bedding (pillows/wedges) was considered, that the member meets the general hospital bed criteria (for semi‑electric, also a need for frequent or immediate position changes), and that head elevation <30% does not justify a hospital bed.
