Policy Summary
Aetna covers dehydration testing with glycerol, urea, or other osmotic diuretics to verify endolymphatic hydrops (Meniere’s disease) only for members with atypical presentations who meet selection criteria; all other uses of dehydration testing are experimental/investigational and not covered. Endolymphatic sac immunohistochemistry (AQP2, V2R, NKCC2, TRPV4), genetic testing for KCNE1/KCNE3/SIK1/SLC8A1/SLC26A4, IV-gadolinium inner-ear MRI, and multi-frequency tympanometry are considered experimental/investigational and excluded.
