Policy Summary
Aetna covers low‑vision programs (ophthalmologic evaluations, testing, instruction in use of visual aids, counseling, and orientation/mobility training) as medically necessary for members with moderate (BCVA <20/60) or severe (BCVA <20/160 or visual field ≤20°) visual impairment not correctable by conventional refractive means. Most plans exclude optical and non‑optical low‑vision devices (e.g., magnifiers, large‑print aids; HCPCS V2600, V2610, V2615), so device coverage depends on the member’s benefit plan.
