Lung Imaging: Selected Techniques
AETNA-CPB-0581
Aetna covers lung imaging fluorescence endoscopy (LIFE) to detect/biopsy pre‑cancerous and early bronchogenic lesions for members with known or suspected lung cancer (including positive sputum cytology, hemoptysis, unresolved pneumonia, persistent cough, or positive chest X‑ray) and for patients with previously resected Stage I lung cancer at risk for secondary disease, allowing the listed bronchoscopy CPT codes when used in that clinical context. LIFE for other indications is experimental/investigational and not covered, and Aetna also considers point laser Raman spectroscopy with bronchoscopy, XV LVAS pulmonary tissue ventilation analysis (CPT 0807T, 0808T), and Xenon Xe‑129 hyperpolarized gas ventilation (HCPCS C9150, C9791) not covered.
