Intranasal Radiofrequency Ablation

Aetna covers intranasal radiofrequency volumetric tissue reduction (RFVTR/Somnoplasty; CPT 30801, 30802) for chronic nasal obstruction from mucosal hypertrophy of the inferior turbinates (ICD‑10 J34.0–J34.1, J34.3, J34.81–J34.9) only when the plan’s selection criteria are met. RFVTR for snoring is not medically necessary, RFVTR for obstructive sleep apnea and coblation procedures (non‑thermal volumetric reduction, coblation‑assisted turbinoplasty) and the RhinAer procedure are considered experimental/investigational.
