Aetna covers diagnostic tests for women WITH SYMPTOMS OF VAGINITIS—including direct DNA probe assays (e.g., Affirm VP/VP III) for Trichomonas, Candida and Gardnerella; sialidase testing (BVBlue); vaginal pH and amine testing (FemExam); and NAAT/PCR panels for bacterial vaginosis and Candida (e.g., BD MAX, Aptima, GenPath, LabCorp, Quest)—only when symptoms are present. Pap smear for Candida diagnosis, routine screening of asymptomatic women (including asymptomatic pregnant women) for Candida/Gardnerella/BV, the uBiome SmartJane screen, and the 27-organ Bridge Diagnostics/OpenArray vaginal pathogen panel are considered experimental/investigational and are not covered.
