Voice Therapy
AETNA-CPB-0646
Aetna considers voice therapy medically necessary for essential voice tremor, post‑surgical or post‑traumatic vocal cord rehabilitation, post‑treatment for laryngeal (glottic) carcinoma, muscle tension (functional) dysphonia, and paradoxical vocal cord motion, but not medically necessary for cosmetic/voice‑quality only indications, occupational/recreational uses (e.g., public speaking or singing), self‑limited conditions (e.g., acute laryngitis), or maintenance treatment when symptoms are not improving. If no clinical benefit is appreciated after 4 weeks of therapy the treatment plan must be re‑evaluated and further voice therapy is not considered medically necessary without meaningful symptom improvement.
