Policy Summary
Aetna covers electrical stimulation as DME only for chronic arterial ulcers, diabetic ulcers, and stage III–IV pressure ulcers as adjunctive therapy after at least 30 days of conventional wound care with no measurable healing. Key requirements: conventional care must include nutrition optimization, debridement, appropriate dressings, infection control and wound‑specific measures; therapy is limited to ≤60 minutes/day and typically ≤4 weeks (stop if no measurable improvement within 4 weeks or once the wound is fully epithelialized).
