Aetna deems dry hydrotherapy (hydromassage/aquamassage/water massage) experimental/investigational and not covered for any indications (including claims of pain relief, increased circulation, faster healing, or improved ROM); CPT 97036 is likewise not covered for these uses. Coverage would require reliable, well-designed peer‑reviewed clinical evidence demonstrating benefit, which is currently lacking (notwithstanding that cited devices are FDA Class I exempt).
